Unusual characters added to Note cause Dropbox sync error

Postby paulf » Fri Jul 22, 2011 10:23 am

If I edit a note on my PC (in notepad) and copy in text from another application (such as Word) I sometimes get the error "DO_HYDRATE_DROPBOX_NOTES" when syncing the note back to my iPad.

The problem seems to be caused by "unusual characters". Word substitutes some characters: for example, using curly versions of quotes.

This is some text with curly single quotes that will cause the problem if pasted into a note:
Code: Select all
Keep the ‘green light’on

Here is some text with a hyphen that also causes a problem:
Code: Select all
You can ask yourself – if we dealt with

(I'm hoping the message board doesn't also make substitutions :) - if you can't get these to work, email me and I'll sent the actual notes)

I have this same problem and to make things worse my iPhone has wiped so the only version of my 2000 page wiki is on Dropbox
How can I identify and edit the offending page on Dropbox?

It is important to save all text files encoded in UTF8. It might be that Notepad sees some stuff being pasted from Word which is in a different encoding and then decides to change its encoding. I do however admit I need to get Trunk Notes handling this stuff more gracefully.

The problem is always with the file mentioned at the top of the log created when you try the sync.
