Problems with some characters (Å, Æ, Ø)

Postby Jan » Fri Jul 31, 2009 3:29 pm

Hi,

I have some trouble with the characters Å, Æ and Ø. I have some pages starting with these characters and they are not displayed correctly, although I converted everything to UTF-8. On pages they look correct but in page names they are displayed as ≈, ∆ and Ÿ.

Best regards,
Jan

Hello,

This problem is a bug which I will fix in Trunk Notes 1.9.0 which will be submitted to Apple in the next few days.

The issue is that Trunk Notes tries to capitalise the first letter of each word in the page name. The routine works with standard ASCII characters (a, b, c, etc) but seems to be getting confused with the letters you mentioned.

I have to admit my ignorance of languages other than English! Can you capitalise the letters Å, Æ, Ø - or are they already capitals? Should they not be capitalised? Any advice on this would be greatly received!

As a workaround you should be able to turn off the capitalise wiki words setting in the Settings apps.

Regards,

Matthew

Hello Matthew,

Å, Æ and Ø are already capitals of å, æ and ø which I use in some Danish pages. There are a few more letter to take into account if it is a general problem as different languages make use of "strange" letters:
e.g. German: öäüß -> ÖÄÜ (there is no capital ß)
Danish: åæø -> ÅÆØ
I am not sure about the French if they use capitals of their éèêç etc.

But the workaround you mentioned seems to work!

Thank you!

Best regards,
Jan
