Tip: Add a "New Page" in the header

Postby jbarr » Wed Aug 31, 2011 1:43 pm

Edit the Special:Header page and add the text [[NewPage|New Note]] and then click the "Save" button.

You now have at the top of every page a simple "New Page" link. Tap the link, and a new blank page it will open titled (ready for this?) "New Page". Enter whatever you want in the body, change the title to whatever the content is related to, click "Save", and voila! You now have a new page of content titled as you need it, and because you renamed the title, the next time you click the "New Page" link, you'll again be taken to a blank page.

The Special:Header page can be found bu entering "header" into the search field and tapping "Search for 'header'.

This is a clever idea, but it seems like a waste of taps and screen space... Since the search bar is already always present, all you need to do is type in the name of the new note and select "+ Create page ...". The "New Note" in the header means you have to click the link, load the page, then just repeat the same steps of entering a title and tapping, only now you're tapping "save" instead of "+ Create page ..."

Ahh, touche! Simplicity is always desired, and what you describe (as I also found in the manual) is much quicker and simpler.

Ah, but this post is still of value as it's a springboard for other possibilities, such as automatically adding a link to a frequently referred to doc or template options. My head is swimming in ideas

Cheers !
